Fall 2013 Architecture Studio | 1st and 1st Building: Adaptive Reuse
One of the oldest buildings in Minneapolis, built in 1895, stands almost empty since the Theatre de la Jeune Lune closed in 2008. It was used as a storage facilty for almost a century, and its Cass Gilbert facade must be preserved. Proposal: a DIY maintenance center, wood shop and studios for demonstration workshops. With the building's industrial history, this project revives the mechanical functions of the building by not radically changing the present building. The minor modifications include a courtyard ripping through a central portion of storage rooms to orientate users and installing dust collection and exhaust systems to the bulk of storage rooms.
